Motivational quote: "People, including managers, do not live by pie charts alone--or by bar graphs or three-inch statistical appendices to 300-page reports. People live, reason, and are moved by symbols and stories." --Tom Peters

Thought #1: But we still judge by measurable statistics anyway. Even in churches. Balance it with how people really think! Stories behind numbers move people to act.

Thought #2: This is evidenced by the Stalin quote "The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of a million is a statistic." (I've always heard that associated with Stalin, though wikiquote calls it misattributed. We'll blame him anyway.) We're not overly moved to hear that 'millions of children starve' but tell us about one child, and we'll pour out our wallets. People are affected by the personal.

1 Timothy 5:6 ->The church should not subsidize ungodly living--compare 1 Timothy 5:5 with this verse.

1 Timothy 5:7 ->The church will bear reproach for supporting bad behavior--codependent enabling is not a spiritual gift.

Isaiah 58:8 ->Appropriate righteousness brings amazing results

Isaiah 58:7 ->Fasting should result in positive outreach.

1 Samuel 14:45 ->Righteous people stop an unrighteous king.

Prayer: Lord God, we are completely dependent on You. Help us, Lord. we need to encounter You today!
Moving toward the Horizon,
Doug
